Robert Paul Hamor

Robert Paul Hamor, was born on May 15, 1951, in Grinnell, Iowa, to Paul and Darlene (Onthank) Hamor. He grew up in Grinnell and attended local schools before moving to Omaha, Nebraska, to pursue his passion for mechanics at the Universal Technical Institute (UTI).

It was in Omaha that he met the love of his life, Rene Wilke. The couple was united in marriage in 1972 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Omaha. They welcomed two sons to this union, Chad and Jason.

Robert’s talent with engines shaped a remarkable, lifelong career in the automotive industry. Over the years, he lent his expertise to Old Mill Toyota and Bluffs Toyota, and he successfully owned and operated Hamor's Imports in Papillion, Nebraska, from 1993 to 2009. Robert and René moved to Harlan where he worked at Petersen Motors and eventually retired.

Beyond his daily work, Robert lived and breathed car racing. His mechanical skill took him all the way to the Long Beach Grand Prix, and he even served as a pit crew member for Tom Cruise during the actor's racing days. At home, Robert was a talented builder who brought classic horsepower back to life, proudly building a couple of hot rods, including a cherished 1969 Plymouth Road Runner. He was also an avid fan of stock car races. Above all, Robert loved his family. He treasured every moment spent with them, especially the peaceful days and shared memories made during visits to the family cabin on the Missouri River.

Robert passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Larry Hamor and Michael Hamor.

He is survived by his wife, René Hamor of Harlan, Iowa; children, Chad (Tracey) Hamor of Eagle, Nebraska, and Jason (Tiffany) Hamor of Nashville, Tennessee; 1 granddaughter, Brittany; 3 great grandchildren, Jayce, Junior, and Echo; sister, Linda Duncan of Ralston, Nebraska; other relatives and many friends.
