Phyllis A. Meyer

Phyllis Alayne Meyer was born October 8, 1928 to Elmer & Dosena (Nielsen) Brown. She graduated from Avoca High School in 1946 & taught country school for a short time. She married Eldon Chaney January 18, 1948 and they raised three daughters; Laraine (Robert) Scott of Avoca, Denice Duus of Omaha, NE and Patti (Davey) Weirich of Avoca. After Eldon's passing in 1965 she took on the job of caring for 3 girls and running their farm. She married Virgil Meyer on August 20, 1970 and he passed in 1989. She had several jobs including Cyanamid, FS and her favorite which was working at Northside Animal Hospital and U.S. Postal Service in Shelby, Secretary of the Pottawattamie Fair and numerous others. She always had a large garden and lots of flowers.

She passed away peacefully on Friday June 5, 2026 at Elm Crest Nursing Home in Harlan, having attained the age of 97 years, 7 months and 28 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Eldon, husband Virgil, brother Robert & sister-in-law Barb Brown and son-in-law Dan Duus.

Left to cherish her memory are her children Laraine & husband Robert Scott, Patti and husband Davey Weirich of Avoca and Denice Duus of Omaha, 6 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; other family and friends.
