Lois Elaine Gustafsen Scott
Lois Elaine Gustafsen Scott entered Heaven at the age of 94 in Tampa, Florida, on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, her heart of gold tired from a life well lived and loved.
Lois Elaine Gustafsen Scott was born on October 10, 1930, in Avoca, Iowa. She was the only child of Daniel and Bessie Gross Gustafsen. She graduated from Avoca High School in 1948 and was a member of the Bluebirds Girls basketball team.
Upon graduation, she worked in the Clerk’s Office in the East Pottawattamie Courthouse in Avoca. She married Burl Scott on April 16, 1952. They farmed in Macedonia and Shelby before returning to her beloved Avoca in 1965. In addition to being a homemaker and working in the office at Scott Electric, she was very involved in the Avoca community. She served as a deacon for the United Church of Avoca and chaired their Christmas Bazaar for several years. She participated in the Fine Dining and China event setting many beautiful tables over the years. She assisted with being a poll worker for elections held in Avoca. She was an accomplished seamstress, loved doing crafts, playing bridge and cribbage, and crocheted blankets for all her grand and great-grandchildren.
Burl and Lois snowbirded many years to Florida before relocating there in 2016 to be near their family. At her assisted living facility she was very active in all their activities. She served as President of the Residents Council and was an Ambassador. She was known by all for her daily stylish color coordinated appearance. The pride and joy of her life were her children, grand and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 70 years, and her son, Daniel. Left to celebrate her life and mourn her loss are her surviving children Debra (Richard) Hierlmeier, Randy, Cindy (Jim) O’Donoghue, and Ken (Renee) Scott; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and one on the way; four cousins; other family and friends.

Daniel Ford Scott of Tampa, Florida, formerly of Avoca, Iowa, died in Tampa on Friday, September 8, 2023, of heart failure.
Daniel Ford Scott, 61, was born on June 4, 1962, the son of Burl and Lois Gustafsen Scott. He attended school in Avoca, and graduated from AvoHa with the class of 1980. Dan traveled and lived in many places in his life including Belize, Costa Rica, and Africa.
He was especially fond of dogs and spending time with his nieces and nephews and their children. He loved Corvettes, Elvis, had a crazy sweet tooth, could drink a gallon of milk in one sitting, and enjoyed country music. He kept informed on current political issues and was a devout MAGA man.
Dan was preceded in death by his father, Burl Scott. He is survived by his mother, Lois of Tampa, Florida; Debra (Richard) Hierlmeier and Cindy (Jim) O’Donoghue; brothers Randy and Ken (Renee) Scott. He will forever be remembered by his nephews and nieces as Uncle Boone.
