Lester Showers

Lester Showers, passed unexpectedly at his home in Avoca, Iowa, on September 23, 2025, at the age of 79 years, 8 months and 4 days. Born on January 19, 1946, in Avoca, Iowa to Gale and Marie Lamberty Showers, Lester was a man of many talents whose work ethic and passion for the land defined his life.

After graduating from Avoca High School with the class of 1964, Lester enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving his country with pride. Once back home, he dedicated 41 years of his life to Hallet Materials, where he made a name for himself as a dependable worker, always ready to lend a hand. Alongside this, he managed his farm,

Lester wasn’t just all work; he loved to play with his toys—his tractors and fishing gear were his pride and joy. He often spent weekends hunting and fishing, creating memories that he cherished throughout his life.

He was predeceased by his infant son, David, as well as his mother and father, and siblings Leo, Helen, and Dennis. Lester is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Showers, who stood by his side through thick and thin. Together, they raised a family that includes their proud children: Christina Rodenborn of LaVista, NE; Craig Showers of Avoca; and Raymond Showers of Avoca. The family has been blessed with 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild who will carry on the legacy of a man who showed them the value of hard work and dedication. Lester also leaves behind his sisters—Marge Smith of Denver, CO; Maxine Prochnow of Kansas City, MO; Jean Knapp of Omaha, NE; and Judy Stender of North Liberty, IA—along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and many friends who were fortunate enough to know him.
