Cindy Septer

Cindy Lou Septer, was born on February 27, 1957, in Kimball, Nebraska, to Darrell and Mary (Richardson) Wenzel. Cindy’s early years were shaped by her family’s moves across the upper Midwest, attending several schools as her parents traveled to various job sites. Her commitment to education culminated in earning an Associate degree in Information Technology from Iowa Western Community College in 2000. This foundation led her into a career first as a truck driver and later as a IT technician for Kiewit. After retiring from full-time work, Cindy enjoyed part-time employment at the Exchange Bar in Avoca—a place where her friendly spirit was well known and appreciated.

On October 7, 1999, Cindy celebrated a special milestone by marrying Dennis Septer in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Cindy was fondly known for her love of Diet Pepsi and her passionate sports fandom—cheering heartily for the Denver Broncos, Nebraska Cornhuskers, and later embracing the ISU Cyclones with equal enthusiasm. Her family held a central place in her world. Cindy was most proud of her role as a grandmother and great-grandmother, a source of great joy and fulfillment.

On Sunday, April 12, 2026, Cindy passed away at her home while on hospice care surrounded by her loving family, having attained the age of 69 years, 1 month and 16 days. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Richardson; her father, Darrell Wenzel; and her daughter, Cristana .

She is survived by her devoted husband, Dennis Septer of Avoca, IA; her children Cim Lewis-McLaughlin of Avoca, IA, and Jon Lewis (and wife Dawn) of Rock Springs, WY; Dennis’s children, Darci Septer and Danielle Roecker (and husband Seth) of Des Moines, IA; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; siblings Brenda Johnson of Denver, CO; James Wenzel (and wife Kandi) of Casper, WY; Darrell Wenzel (and wife Krista) of West Palm Beach, FL; Mary Kay Parsons (and husband Paul) of Cheyenne, WY; Mark Wenzel (and wife Kristina) of Broadus, MT; and Darlene Woolston (and husband Shane) of Broadus, MT; other family and many friends.
