William Goetzinger
August 17, 1951 — March 13, 2019
William Francis Goetzinger, son of Edward and Agnes (Wageman) Goetzinger, was born on August 17, 1951 in Harlan, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Westphalia, Iowa and began his education at St. Boniface Catholic School. He then went on to attend Harlan Community High School in Harlan where he graduated with the class of 1969.
After high school, Bill worked at Western Iowa Pork out of Harlan and drove school bus for the Harlan Community School district. In August of 1972, Bill was united in marriage to Marie Larsen at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan. To this union one daughter, Tiffany, was born. They made their home near Westphalia where he continued working at Western Iowa Pork.
On August 28, 2004, Bill was united in marriage to Lois Lefeber at a private ceremony with their family and close friends at the Harlan Golf and Country Club. Bill welcomed her four more children into their new family: Jason, Jenny, Jeremy and Josh. They made their home near Westphalia, Iowa and he continued to work for Proliant in Harlan which took over Western Iowa Pork.
Bill grew up playing town team baseball for Westphalia and later took up bowling and golf. Some of his best friendships came from his over forty years of bowling and many years of playing golf. He and Lois traveled to Arizona during winter months so they could play golf with their retired Harlan friends and also enjoyed their other trips throughout the U.S. He was a loving and supportive grandfather to all of his grandchildren and enjoyed watching them during school and summer activities. Bill was a huge sports fan following the New York Yankees baseball team and Green Bay Packers football team.
Bill died on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa, attaining the age of sixty-seven years, six months and twenty-four days. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lois Goetzinger, stepson Jason Nielsen, brother Charles Goetzinger and sister-in-law Jane Goetzinger.
He is survived by his daughter Tiffany Skidmore of Grandview, Iowa; stepchildren Jennifer (Wade) Daggett of Blair, Nebraska; Jeremy (Kylie) Nielsen of Irwin, Iowa; Joshua (Stephanie) Nielsen of Harlan, Iowa; 8 grandchildren: Brooklyn and Wyatt Skidmore; Payton, Paige, and Hayden Daggett; Max and Maeve Nielsen; and Kamber Nielsen; siblings Marilyn (Ron) Zimmerman of Elkhorn, Nebraska; Anna Mae (Dale) Gross of Harlan; Larry (Julie) Goetzinger of Westphalia, Iowa; nieces and nephews, other family members and many friends.
