Russell Coenen

Russell "Russ" Coenen, age 75, of Woodward, Iowa passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 16th, 2025. A mass of Catholic Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, October 28th, at Saint Boniface Catholic Church in Westphalia, Iowa.

Russ was born on May 1, 1950. He proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard of which he loved dearly. Upon discharge, he owned a State Farm insurance business for many years. After retirement, he continued staying busy as an Umpire for local softball, and basketball teams. He was a loyal Minnesota Twins fan, and attended as many games as possible throughout the years.

Russ received the most enjoyment with his widely known good humor. There wasn't a person he didn't like and he loved getting a laugh out of anyone. His memory will be in the lives he touched and the laughter he created.

Russ is preceded in death by his father, Norman Coenen of Woodward, Iowa and brother Roger Coenen of Ankeny, Iowa.

Russ is survived by his Mother, Dee Coenen of Woodward, Iowa; sons Kurt and Cody from the Des Moines area; brother Ed (Marianne) of Panama, Iowa; sister Trudi (Hartman) of Pomona, California and sister Nancy (Chapline) of Ogden, Iowa.

Although his humor is gone, his memory will live forever with the many who loved and cherished him.
