Ronald James Scroggie, born on October 11, 1951, in Conway, Iowa, to James and Opal Gross Scroggie. He was a Bedford High School graduate with the Class of 1969. In 1971 he was drafted during the Vietnam War and was stationed at Fort Ord in California. While serving he obtained the rank of SP4, shooting specialist and Military Police Corps. After being discharged in 1973 he continued to serve in the Army National Guard. While still in California, he was employed at the City of Marina Fire Department. He then returned to Iowa. Over the years, he made pit stops as a kill floor foreman at the Oakland Beef Plant, revving up his career for more than two decades, ensuring that operations ran like a well-tuned engine. He then worked for Walnut Creek Fertilizer and Regional Water for a number of years. He found a faithful co-pilot in Tina Renfeld and the two of them were united in marriage on August 20, 1999. This is when 4 boy's became brothers.
Arnold had a zest for life that rivaled the thrill of a championship race. He loved camping, boating, and riding the waves on jet skis, often making memories at his cherished spot, Okoboji. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also on several pool leagues over the years. Arnold and Tina were one unit and did everything together. He showed her the mountains and she showed him Mt. Rushmore. His greatest joy stemmed from being a constant supporter of his grandchildren, cheering them on from the starting line of elementary through high school events. Arnold wasn't just a family man; he was a proud crew chief, orchestrating triumphs for Fred Miller and Shane Hoepner at the Shelby County and Crawford County Speedways. His heart raced with pride as he celebrated their victories. From 1984 in Fred's basement of the bar and eventually to Campbell's Welding & Repair you rarely seen him without a wrench in one hand and a beer in the other. He was a loyal, faithful crew man until 1997. 1998 was his last year of being the man on the wrench with Gale Kiesel and Wendy Pieken.
The checkered flag waved on May 13, 2025, as Arnold passed away peacefully at his home in Avoca with his wife by his side, having attained the age of 73 years, 7 months and 2 days. He was preceded in death by those who crossed the finish line before him: mother Opal and father James; and sister-in-law Joanne Scroggie. Also, mother and father-in law Marlene and Donald Renfeld.
He wore many hats in life, but none complemented him more than that of a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Surviving Arnold are his beloved wife, Tina Scroggie of Avoca, Iowa, and his children: Terry (Amy) Scroggie of Osceola, Iowa; Angie Frohwein of Clive, Iowa; Schuyler (Sarah) Kiesel, Brent (Trish) Kiesel, and Dylan Kiesel, all of Avoca, Iowa; 18 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren who will carry his spirit forward as they navigate the tracks of their own lives; siblings Gary Scroggie of Clarinda, Iowa, and Sandy (Jim) Helm of Lennox, Iowa, other family and many friends.
