Robert Joseph Hollinger, son of Fred and Dorothy (Marr) Hollinger, was born March 1st, 1958, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Bob was one in nine children. He grew up in Council Bluffs where he attended Peterson and Long Fellow schools. After school, he entered the work field being a salesman for American Linen. Later he worked for Werner oil and worked as a handyman at various other places. He then lived a farm/homesteading lifestyle.

In 1992, he met and fell in love with his life-long partner, Melinda McDaniel. Together, they intertwined their families. They made their home in Dow City until it flooded in 2008, then moved to Denison, later Dow City, and finally settled in Arion.

Bob loved his family and friends. He enjoyed getting to watch his grandchildren play. He loved music, dancing, canning, cookouts, fishing, mushroom hunting, and anything to do with the outdoors. He loved to just go for a cruise on the four wheeler. You could always find him making something or tinkering in the shop. In his earlier life, he thoroughly loved mud drags. His pride and joy was his “Big Foot” truck he raced. He was a collector for antiques. He also loved raising animals and putting in a big garden every year.

Bob passed peacefully at home on April 17, 2026 surrounded by his family. He was proceeded in death by both his parents, Fred and Dorothy, and his siblings, Fred Hollinger, Jim Hollinger, Barb Smith, Charles Hollinger, Bill Hack, Terry Hollinger, and Dorothy Hollinger.
