Mildred Annie Handbury, daughter of Henry and Annie L. (Dau) Muxfeldt, was born on August 21, 1916, in Cass Township, in Harrison County, Iowa. She attended country school in Cass Township and grew to adulthood in Logan, Iowa, where she worked at Harvey�s Variety Store. She also played piano for a band in Logan that played for area dances.
On December 24, 1943, Mildred was united in marriage to Frank Handbury in Omaha, Nebraska. One son, Max, was born to this union. After their wedding, Mildred and Frank made their home on the family farm near Neola.
Mildred was a devoted care giver to her husband for fifteen years because of his ill health. She also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, gardening, and spending time with her son and grandchildren.
Mildred died on Friday, November 20, 2009, at Westmont Care Center in Logan, Iowa, having attained the age of ninety-three years, two months, and thirty days. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brothers: Vern, Elmer, and Maynard.
She is survived by her son Max Handbury and his wife Jerri of Persia, Iowa; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other family members and many friends.
Funeral Services were held on Tuesday, November 24, 2009, at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan, Iowa, with Pastor Ron Keith officiating the 10:00 AM service. Interment was held at Neola Township Cemetery in Neola, Iowa, with Wally Polak, Gale Muxfeldt, Jerry Driver, Steve Stamp, Duane Blowers, and Don Feekin acting as honorary casket bearers. Serving as casket bearers were: Randy Polak, Matthew Handbury, Ronnie Lee, David Sliva, Craig Handbury, and Dale Kosmacek
