Michael (Mike) Pauley
Michael (Mike) Pauley, the son of Fred and Vera (Gessert) Pauley, was born on January 7, 1933 at Panama, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Panama. Mike attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Panama.
Mike was united in marriage to Arlene Schwery on November 8, 1954 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Westphalia. They were the parents of 4 children: Galen, Roxanne, Pam, and Shelli.
Mike farmed until 1968 when the family moved to the town of Portsmouth. He was then the custodian for St. Mary’s parish for a short time. After that he went to work for Kenny Buman and then transferred to Harlan Milling in Harlan, Iowa until he retired in 1995. Mike enjoyed tinkering in the garage, mowing the lawn, and loved to play cards. He loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who all called him gramps, and took great pleasure in spending time with them. He was able to remain at his home in Portsmouth, Iowa until October when he became a resident of Azria Rose Vista. Mike was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He was also a longtime member of the Portsmouth Volunteer Fire Department.
Mike died on Thursday, June 15, 2023 at Rose Vista Home in Woodbine, Iowa, attaining the age of ninety years, five months, and eight days. In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by one great-granddaughter Ryann Leinen, one great-grandson Daxtyn Nelson.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years Arlene Pauley of Woodbine, Iowa; children Galen Pauley, Roxanne and her husband Richard Reinig, Pam and her husband Marvin Leinen all of Portsmouth, Iowa; Shelli and her husband Ralph Pauley of Woodbine, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 25 living great grandchildren; two sisters Dorothy (Jim) Leinen of Denison, Iowa; Delores (Tony) Klein of Winnipeg, Canada; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
