Michael Charles Kimmen

Michael Charles Kimmen was born December 8, 1937, on the family farm south of Defiance, Iowa. He passed away at the age of 87 years, 5 months on May 8, 2025 at Denison Care Center in Denison, Iowa. His parents were Lawrence and Hilda (Schumacher) Kimmen.

Mike’s schooling consisted of three years at the one-room country school near the farm. After that, he attended St. Paul’s School in Defiance, graduating with the class of 1955.

In February 1956, he joined the US Marines as an administrative person, serving 46 months in California and Hawaii. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal. Mike had four children: Michael Jr., Patrick, John, and Nancy. He married Judy Stoa in 1993.

During his working years, Mike worked for various firms. The last was Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co in Lincoln, NE where he worked for more than 25 years. After retirement, he and Judy moved to the old hometown of Defiance, IA in September of 2001.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Hilda Kimmen; brothers, Kenny and Ray; sister, Phyllis Grote; daughter, Nancy Bouton; daughter-in-laws, Terri Kimmen and Brenda Kimmen.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Kimmen of Defiance, IA sons, Michael Kimmen Jr. of Lincoln, NE, Patrick Kimmen of Milford, NE, John Kimmen of Lincoln, NE; step-children, Julie Miers of Omaha, NE, Kris (Sundae) Stoa of North Carolina, and Jay (Karen) Stoa of Lincoln, NE; many grandchildren; many great grandchildren; siblings, Mona Case of Manning, IA, Bonnie Jacobs of Harlan, IA, Al Kimmen of Missouri, and Larry Kimmen of Dunlap, IA; son-in-law, Todd Bouton of Lincoln, NE; sister-in-law, Ellen Kimmen of Hastings, MN; other family members and friends.
