Micah Chase Finken was born on May 11, 1992 to Wayne and Tammie (Johnston) Finken in Grapevine, Texas. He attended school in Woodbine, Iowa through the fifth grade when his family moved to Harlan, Iowa. He participated in wrestling and cross country running during his high school years. Micah worked with his father during the summers doing carpentry work. He graduated from Harlan Community High School with the Class of 2010.
After his graduation, he worked for Interstate Industrial Vac Service, a power washing company. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He could often be found around a bonfire in the back yard with many of his friends, listening to music, or playing with his PlayStation 3.
One of his favorite pastimes was tubing down the Nishnabotna River in the summer with his friends. He was known to his family as “Littleman” and his mamaw called him the “best hugger there ever was”.
Micah died on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, having attained the age of twenty-one years, six months, and one day. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers Bobby Johnston and Wallace Finken, step-grandparents Al and Mildred Schechinger and uncle Warren Glen Finken.
He will be forever missed by his mother Tammie and her husband Lee Schechinger of Harlan, Iowa; father Wayne Finken of Woodbine, Iowa; brother Nathan Finken and his wife Jen of Phoenix, Arizona, sisters Danielle and Brittni Finken both of Harlan, Iowa; grandmothers Geraldine Johnston of Fort Worth, Texas and Violet Finken of Woodbine, Iowa; niece Taylor Finken and nephew Hunter Finken both of Phoenix, Arizona; other family members and many friends.
The family greeted friends on Saturday, November 16, 2013 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the C. G. Therkildsen Center in Harlan, Iowa.
