Mary Kathryn Reischl was born on March 26, 1923 to Charles and Wilhelmina (Langenfeld) Heese in Earling, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earling where she remained a lifelong member and attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Schools.

On January 19, 1948, Mary was united in marriage to Joseph J. Reischl in Earling. There were seven children born to them: Bob, Linda, Don, Jim, Jay, Ann and Faye. She raised her children and helped her husband on their farm near Irwin, Iowa. They later moved to a farm west of Earling.

Mary enjoyed gardening, sewing, and quilting. She embroidered quilts for every child and grandchild in her family. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of Americas, Court St. Katherine, #266 of Earling.

Mary died on Thursday, November 28, 2013 at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa, having attained the age of ninety-years, eight months, and two days. She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Wilhelmina Heese, her husband Joseph Reischl; her daughter Linda; and her sister Irma.

She is survived by her children: Bob Reischl and his wife Cindy of Omaha, Nebraska, Don Reischl and his wife Connie of Gretna, Nebraska, Jim Reischl and his wife Sandy of Harlan, Iowa, Jay Reischl and his wife Jeanine of Omaha, Nebraska, Ann and her husband Ray Schechinger of Westphalia, Iowa, and Faye and her husband Dan Patten of Earling, Iowa; twenty-four grandchildren; thirty-nine great-grandchildren; brothers Nick Heese, Bernard Heese, and Vincent Heese all of Earling, Iowa; sister Sr. Leta Heese of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; other family members and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by Rev. Chris Fontanini on Monday, December 2, 2013 at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earling, Iowa. Interment was held at St. Joseph’s Cemetery with Joe Reischl, Jeff Reischl, Brian Reischl, Adam Reischl, Brad Reischl, Todd Reischl, Jason Schechinger, Chad Reischl and Jeremy Schechinger serving as casket bearers.
