Marie Wineva Feekes
May 26, 1929 — March 24, 2017
Marie Wineva Feekes, daughter of John and Dena (Kruizenga) Kosters was born May 26, 1929 in Rock Valley, Iowa. She attended school in Rock Valley, where she grew up and graduated with the Class of 1947. While in high school, she received her normal teachers training and she taught in Rock Valley for three years.
On her twenty first birthday, May 26, 1950, she was united in marriage to Gerrit B. Feekes in Rock Valley. They became parents to three children: Larry, Greg and Julie. Marie and Gerrit first made their home in Carmel, Iowa then lived in various communities around northwest Iowa then settling in Sheldon, Iowa, where Gerrit worked for area farmers. In 1965, Gerrit purchased Carl Eckhart Heating and Air Conditioning in Avoca, Iowa forming Feekes Heating and Air, which is now a three generation business. Marie kept the books for their business for thirty years before retiring in 1995.
Marie enjoyed her coffee breaks visiting with friends at Kern’s Café or the Heritage. She took great pride in her home and her business. Gerrit and Marie enjoyed the times they had with their grandkids and taking them out for supper. Marie especially loved her family and visiting with them.
Marie died on Friday, March 24, 2017 surrounded by her loving family at the Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa, attaining the age of eighty-seven years, nine months and twenty-six days. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers Alfred and Earling Kosters.
She has left to cherish her memory, her husband of sixty-six years, Gerrit Feekes of Avoca, Iowa; children Larry Feekes and his wife Linda of Harlan, Iowa; Greg Feekes and his wife Connie of Rapid City, South Dakota; Julie Feekes of Green Bay, Wisconsin; 8 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; other family members and friends.
