Margaret Mary Petersen was born on June 2, 1954, to Richard and Zita (Rau) Bruck in Manning, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Earling, Iowa and attended grade school at St. Joseph's Catholic School. She graduated from Harlan Community High School with the class of 1972.
On August 19, 1972, Margaret was united in marriage to Thomas E. Obrecht at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Earling. They were married 25 years until Thomas passed away. Two children were born to this union Jennifer in 1974 and Steven in 1978.
On July 12, 2002, Margaret was married to Marlin L. Petersen at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Harlan. Margaret worked at Mickel's Restaurant, Variety Distributors, Donut Stop Coffee Shop, and CDS, before becoming a full time farmer with Marlin. Her hobbies included gardening, taking care of her flowers and landscaping. Most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Margaret passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, May 28, 2023, attaining the age of sixty-eight years, eleven months, and twenty-six days. She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Jennifer, and first husband Tom Obrecht.
She is survived by her husband Marlin Petersen of Kirkman, Iowa; son Steven Obrecht and his wife Jill of Harlan, Iowa; grandchildren Lance, Levi, Lauren, and Logan Obrecht; siblings Rick Bruck and his wife Barb of Manilla, Iowa; Rose and her husband Quinten Christensen of Harlan; Wayne Bruck and his friend Linda Bentzen of Defiance, Iowa; Marilyn and her husband Dan Martin of Harlan; Randy Bruck and his friend Kristy Davis of Manilla; Steve Bruck and his friend Karla Moeller of Harlan; Eric Bruck and his wife Patti of Storm Lake, Iowa; and Cheryl Petsche of Harlan; nieces and nephews; other family members and friends.
