Louis E. Jensen was born on April 27, 1927 to Louis and Millie (Paulsen) Jensen at their home in Harlan, Iowa. He graduated from Harlan High School with the Class of 1945 then enlisted in the United States Navy. After his honorable discharge, Louis continued his education at Iowa State University.

On May 22, 1950, Louis was united in marriage to Virginia Anthony in Maryville, Missouri. There were four children born to them: Linda, Pat, Gail, and Rodney.

His mechanical and electrical abilities were excellent and he could repair anything that was brought to him. He was such a good welder that he was able to teach his daughter to weld over the phone; but being a master machinist was his gift.

Louis grew up working with his father who owned and operated the Merrell Canning Company and the Brickyard Orchard. He then opened Harlan Welding and Machine and ran that for twenty-five years. He retired from Bond Equipment in Logan, Iowa in 2000.

Louis loved to play golf and was a proud member of the Harlan Golf and Country Club board of directors. He was also a member of the Harlan Band Parents Organization, Odd Fellows, the Harlan American Legion Helmer Reyelt Post No. 150, and a twenty year member of the Harlan Fire Department. He was a former member of the Harlan City Council.

Louis died on Monday, November 18, 2013 at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa, having attained the age of eighty-six years, six months, and twenty-two days. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Helen Obrecht and Ethel Campbell; and a granddaughter Angie Wohlhutter.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Virginia Jensen of Harlan, Iowa; children: Linda and her husband Rod Terry of Corvalis, Oregon, Pat and her husband Mike Wohlhutter of Harlan, Iowa, Gail and her husband Joe Gross of Earling, Iowa, and Rodney Jensen and his wife Kelli of Audubon, Iowa; twelve grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; other family members and many friends.
