Hawarden, Iowa- On Sunday, April 12, 2026, Lois Jean Greder, went to her eternal home in heaven at the age of 93.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, April 16, at 10:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church (LCMS) of Hawarden, Iowa with Rev. Dr. Joshua Lowe officiating. Following the service, the family will greet friends for a time of visiting and fellowship at the Hawarden Golf Course until 1:00 PM. Burial will be held at the Oakland Cemetery in Denison, Iowa at 3:30 PM. Porter Funeral Home of Hawarden has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements. Lois Jean Greder, daughter of Herman and Ella (Harder) Fischer was born December 27, 1932, in Manning, Iowa. She was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church, and in 1948 she was confirmed. She was raised on a farm south of Manning and attended country school near her home. Lois graduated from Manning High School in 1951.

Lois married Mike Greder on June 3, 1951. Together they had 4 children, Ralph, Vicki, Gary, and Karen. Lois worked various jobs including the Denison Bakery, the Denison Newspaper, and Montgomery Ward Catalog. In 1960, Mike and Lois bought their first truck and later started Mid Continent Trucking Company hauling refrigerated Farmland Food Products to the West Coast. Lois worked in the accounting and licensing office for Mid Continent, which became a growing company. In 1998, Mike and Lois sold Mid Continent to Wickersham Brothers out of Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Mike and Lois lived in Denison for 47 years and later retired on an acreage north of Denison. Here they built a home and raised greyhound race dogs. They raised hundreds of race dogs and leased them to different racetracks in the United States.

In March of 2007, Mike passed away from cancer, and Lois moved to Hawarden, Iowa. Her early years in Hawarden were spent watching her grandchildren play sports, volunteering at Hillcrest Care Center, and helping with kids’ league at Sportsman’s Lanes. She enjoyed attending church at Trinity Lutheran and was a member of the Ladies Aide. She loved cooking, baking, and making treats for others. Lois also enjoyed gardening, rose bushes and flowers were always her favorite. In later years she enjoyed staying home and doing puzzles, reading, and watching sports.

In December of 2019, Lois moved into Mica Hill Assisted Living in Hawarden. She received excellent care at Mica Hill and loved her time there. She later moved to Hillcrest Care Center.

Lois is survived by 4 children: Ralph (Barb) Greder, Vicki Szasz, Gary (Julie) Greder, and Karen (Brian) Engleman; 10 grandchildren: Michelle (Kurt) Johnson, Staci (Lyle) Brink, John (Sandra) Szasz, Robyn Szasz, Rhiannon Greder, Randi Greder, Joel Greder, Jason (Kayla) Engleman, Nic Engleman, and Samantha (Max) Burgeson; and 18 great-grandchildren, Tristen (Nick), Tyrel (Emily), Logan (Nychole), Whitney, Ellie, Mattie, Taysom, Quinnlie, Thaddeus, Theo, Kezzie, Reggie, Grady, Cason, Avery, Ryelin, Shane, and Bailey. Lois also had 4 great-great-grandchildren, Jayla, Creedence, Jacob, and Emerly.

Lois was proceeded in death by her parents, Herman and Ella; and husband, Mike.

Family prefers memorials be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church (LCMS) in Hawarden or Sioux Center Hospice.
