Laurie Jo Lemon

Laurie Jo Lemon was born November 18th, 1971, in Fullerton, NE to Jerome Lemon Sr and Joleen Lemon (Aldag). She was baptized at Methodist Church in Fullerton. The family soon moved and made their home on an acreage north of Kiron, IA. She was confirmed in her faith on April 27th, 1986, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kiron. Laurie was devout in her faith and was an active member at St John’s. She passed away on April 2nd, 2025, at Crawford County Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family and friends.

Laurie attended Denison High School and was employed with the Denison Care Center as a Dietary Aide for many years. She also worked at Curves for Women and the Carroll Daycare Center. At work and in her life, she always enjoyed helping others. Laurie spent much of the last 15 years being her mother, Joleen’s, full-time caregiver and took pride in doing so. Laurie became a mother in 1996 when she took guardianship of her daughter, Megan. In 1999, she was blessed with the birth of her daughter Mackenzie.

One of Laurie’s favorite pastimes was spending time with her friends and family. She wanted to celebrate everything. Regardless if it was a birthday, holiday, or just because the weather was nice. She loved having get-togethers, sleepovers, and bonfires, and was the host with the most.

Laurie was best at being a collector. If you needed it, she probably had it. She loved gnomes for her “gnome village”, smurfs, angels and old coins; anything that was neat or one-of-a-kind. In her free time, she enjoyed going to the casino, fishing, rock hunting, and floating down the river. She described yard work as “her therapy” and spent as many hours outside as she could. Laurie loved classic rock and was addicted to Chapstick.

Many would describe Laurie as funny, courageous, loving, and compassionate. She would describe herself as blessed. Blessed in her family and friends and blessed in her faith.

 Laurie is survived by her daughters: Megan (Toriano) Lange, and their children, Calyen, Niahnna, and Dasen of Kiron, IA; and Mackenzie Ricke (Micaiah Sedlacek) of Denison, IA; her mother Joleen Lemon of Kiron, IA; 3 siblings: Jerome Lemon Jr of Battle Creek, IA, Mary Morgan (Rick), of Odebolt, IA, and Julie Hoefling, of Odebolt, IA; her pets: Tillie, Maddie, Isabelle, and Greta; 9 nieces and nephews, many other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Jerome Lemon Sr; her brother, Kendall Lemon; and her Godson, Austin Hugeback.

The family has requested anyone attending to wear jeans and their favorite band shirts.
