James "Jim" Nelson
January 5, 1938 — July 23, 2022
James C. Nelson, 84, son of Clifford and Theonita (Wellman) Nelson was born on January 5, 1938 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He attended and graduated from Neola Public School in Neola, Iowa. After graduation, in 1952, he joined the United States National Guard. He trained in Minnesota.
Jim served on the Neola City Council and the Neola Fire Department. He worked with his parents and brothers for many years at Nelson Farm Supply and Hatchery. He owned and operated Neola Fertilizer in Neola, Iowa. Jim’s hobbies included spending time with his family. He loved sharing stories of his youth with his grandchildren. These stories were always filled with lots of laughter.
Jim found the love of his life when he met Beverly Kuster. They were married on August 17, 1957 and moved to her home place outside of Persia, Iowa. Jim thoroughly loved being in the country and mowing his lawn. He was a great neighbor and never met anyone he couldn’t talk with.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Theonita Nelson; his son, James Dean Nelson; Grandson, Keith Nelson; and his brothers Ken Nelson, David Nelson, and Max Nelson.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years Beverly Nelson (would have been 65 years on August 17th), children, Chuck (Margo) Nelson, Caroline (Kurt) Stamp, Brenda (Terry) Thomas, and Tom (Michelle) Nelson; daughter-in-law Robin Nelson; 13 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; his siblings, Kay Zimmerman, Denis Nelson, Oran (Donna) Nelson; many nieces and nephews; and other friends and family.
