Harry James Sawyer was born to Connie Scholl and Harry Nelson Sawyer on July 4, 1963, in Norfolk, Virginia. In his younger years, Harry’s family moved to Belton, Missouri, where he attended school and later graduated from Belton Senior High School. As a child, Harry enjoyed spending time with his family, especially going bowling and watching movies together.
In 1982, Harry enlisted in the United States Army, where he served as an Indirect Fire Infantryman until 1986, when he was honorably discharged. During his time in the Army, he earned several awards and recognitions, including the Army Service Ribbon, Marksman Badge, Third Class Grenade Badge, Parachute Badge, and the Army Good Conduct Medal.
Later in life, Harry moved to Harlan, Iowa, where he worked for Jacobs Manufacturing Corporation for 20 years and later for CPM. He was known as a dedicated and hardworking employee. In his free time, Harry enjoyed being with his family, especially his nephew, Jacob, with whom he spent many hours playing chess.
Harry passed away at his home in Harlan, Iowa on Monday, March 2, 2026 attaining the age of 62 years, 7 months, and 26 days. He was preceded in death by his father, Harry Nelson Sawyer.
He is survived by his biological children, Joshua Bradt, Jessica Bradt; mother, Connie Scholl; sister, Jan (Mark) Adkins; niece, Kascee Meireis (fiancé Chrissy); nephew, Jacob (Allyn) Meireis; great nieces, Jayce Meireis, Valerie Meireis, and Kadyn Meireis.
