Durinda Wellman

Durinda Wellman was born on June 13, 1951, in Grand Island, Nebraska, to Russell Dean Lacy and Donna Unine (Ross) Lacy. She grew up surrounded by family and community and carried a warm, caring spirit throughout her life.

After graduating high school, Durinda married David Wellman, and together they built a life rooted in love and family. To this union, three children were born: Michael, Jason, and Michaela. Durinda was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, who always put others before herself.

She spent many years as a beautician at a nursing home in Nebraska, where she not only styled hair but also brightened the days of the residents with her kindness and compassion. In later years, she worked at the Harlan Pizza Hut and gave her time and energy helping at the Shelby County Speedway, where she enjoyed being part of the community.

Durinda passed away peacefully on Friday, September 19, 2025, at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa, at the age of 74. She was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Donna; her husband, David; and her son, Michael.

She is lovingly remembered by her children: Jason Wellman of Harlan, IA, and Michaela (Wellman) Mikels of Harlan, IA; her grandchildren: Masen (Ciera) Schmitz, Alivia Schmitz, Lexas Petersen, Presten Lacy, Tatum Lacy, Jayden Lacy, Malachi Purcell, Zoey Bowers, Josiah Bowers, Violet Bowers, Lilly Bowers, and Willow Bowers; and her great-grandchildren: Michael, Donnie, and Kaison. She is also survived by her siblings, Russell (Barb) Lacy of Council Bluffs, IA, and Helen (Mark) Purcell of Harlan, IA; sister-in-law, Rita Flora of Texas; nephew, Nick Beetison of Lincon, NE; along with many extended family, and friends.
