Douglas Keith Hester, son of Harland and Laurene (Feddersen) Hester, was born July 31, 1957 in Atlantic, Iowa. He was baptized at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Anita, Iowa and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Oakland, Iowa. Doug graduated with the AvoHa class of 1975. He worked for Mertz TV during and after high school for several years and then went on and studied electronics at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs.

Doug then went to work for United Telephone in Dewitt, IA and then in Newton, IA for about 10 years. Doug moved back to Avoca and started working for First Data Resources in Omaha. He worked swing shifts in the mail room where they mail one million plus pieces of mail a day. He did this for 30 years before retiring for health reasons in the fall of 2016. Doug enjoyed raising fish in his aquarium and enjoyed dirt and street motorcycle riding and went to many motorcycle and car races at Elkhart Lake, WI. Doug also enjoyed Pink Floyd music, traveling with his brother and nieces, and watching movies with his family. He loved his family dearly and he will truly be missed by many. We will miss our “Big Little Brother”!

Doug passed away surrounded by his family at the University of Nebraska Medical Center on May 31, 2018, attaining the age of sixty years and ten months. He is preceded in death by his parents Harland and Laurene.

He is survived by his two brothers Richard Hester of Walnut, Iowa; James Hester and his wife Roxanne of Avoca, Iowa; nieces and nephews - Russell Hester, Indianapolis, Indiana; David Hester, Council Bluffs, Iowa; Nicole Hester, Walnut, Iowa; Hannah Hester, Taiwan, China; Sarah Hester, Avoca, Iowa; Stacey Hester, Elk Horn, Nebraska; Steve Hester and wife Chelsea, Tinley Park, Illinois; Jillian Jamerson, husband Daryl, and daughter Ciara, Bennington, Nebraska; other relatives and many friends.
