Donald Merlin Maack, son of Merlin and Ruth (Petersen) Maack, was born on November 17, 1956, in Denison, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, where he remained a lifelong member. Donald attended Denison schools and graduated with the Class of 1975.
After high school, Donald began working for Bernard Petersen Construction, where he learned trade skills that developed into his lifelong career as a contractor. Outside of work, he enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. He also loved gathering with family and friends, often cooking for them and sharing meals together. Donald was known for his sense of humor and had a special way of teasing and poking fun that always brought smiles to those around him.
Donald passed away at his home in Denison on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at the age of sixty-eight years, nine months, and twenty days. He was preceded in death by his parents and his step son-in-law, Jarad Pullen.
He is survived by his son, Trevor Maack of Earling, Iowa; Trevor’s mother, Marla Blum of Denison, Iowa; stepchildren, Jared (Tina) Sharp of Boone, Iowa; Jill Pullen of Battle Creek, Iowa; and Trisha (Brian) Stolte of Boone, Iowa; six step-grandchildren; one great-step-grandchild; siblings, Duane Maack of Denison, Iowa; Denise Jones of Denison, Iowa; and Diane (William) Smith of Denison, Iowa; several nieces and nephews; along with other relatives and many friends.
