Donald Wayne Leonard was born to Samuel and Hesbia (Bays) Leonard on February 24, 1940 in Bristol, Virginia. He grew up in Indianola, Mississippi where he attended and graduated from Indianola High School. While in school, he participated in football, basketball, baseball and ran track. He was awarded the Chapman Award for his excellence in athletics while in high school. Following graduation, he attended Mississippi Delta Community College in Moorehead, Mississippi.
On May 18, 1990, Donald and Lynda Wilson were united in marriage in Springdale, Arkansas. Donald was blessed to have two children, Christy and Bryan. He later became a grandfather to 4 grandchildren, Paisley, Nicholas, Lillie and Sarah; and 2 great grandchildren, Koa and Jeciah
Donald spent many years in the trucking and transportation industry. He enjoyed spending time outdoors. Some of his favorite hobbies included hunting, fishing and riding horses.
Donald passed away peacefully at his home in Shelby, Iowa attaining the age of 85 years, 10 months and 1 day. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Hesbia Leonard.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Lynda Leonard; children Christy Griffin and Bryan Burson; 4 grandchildren, Paisley Griffin, Nicholas Wittaker, Lillie (Saveon) Gross, and Sarah Burson; 2 great grandchildren, Koa Griffin and Jeciah Gross; sister, Norma Feagins; other relatives and friends.
Private services will be held at a later date.
