Delbert Andrew Bruck was born to Mary (Bissen) and Tony Bruck on May 25, 1937, in Earling, Iowa. He attended school at St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Earling, where he graduated with the class of 1956. He served in the Army after graduating from high school and then in the Army Reserves.
On May 25, 1961, Delbert married the love of his life, Yvonne Book at the St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Harlan, Iowa. Six children were born to this union: Lori, Paula, Sandra, Sarah, Kent, and Nathan. Delbert was a lifelong farmer. He began as a child helping his dad, was a hired man after returning from the Army, and then began farming on his own. He was an active member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Westphalia, where he served on the Parish Council. He served on the Farmer’s Co-Op Board and Westphalia Farmers Mutual Insurance Board. He also served as a 4-H Leader. He loved feeding cattle and raising hogs. He was Shelby County’s Pork Producer of the Year in 1983.
Some of Delbert’s favorite hobbies included fishing and traveling. He also enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his grandchildren and friends.
Delbert passed away peacefully in Harlan, Iowa, on Friday, May 29, 2026, at the age of 89 years and 4 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Tony Bruck; granddaughter, Megan Kohles; siblings, Irma Tearney, Lucille Ausdemore, Marlene Brich, Walter Bruck, Melvin Bruck, Ralph Bruck, and Duane Bruck; and brothers-in-law, Al Tearney, Harry Ausdemore, Francis Brich, and Joe Wellman.
He is survived by his wife, Yvonne Bruck of Harlan, IA; children, Lori Bruck (Dave Neubauer) of Omaha, NE; Paula (Glenn) Kohles of Earling, IA; Sandra (Tim) Meyer of Omaha, NE; Sarah (Chris) Pudenz of Omaha, NE; Kent (Kristy) Bruck of Elkhorn, NE; and Nathan (Ann) Bruck of Memphis, TN; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; siblings, Marian Wellman of Neola, IA; Sylvia (Dennis) Gaul of Harlan, IA; sisters-in-law, Cheryl Bruck of Dow City, IA; Marilea Bruck of Earling, IA; Joan Bruck of Harlan, IA; Alice Bruck Willert of Rochester, MN; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
