Deb Blom

Deborah Raye Blom, daughter of Edwin and Helen (Boeck) Bandow, was born on June 9, 1952 in Sac City, Iowa. Deb was the oldest of nine children. She grew up in her family home in Manilla where she attended Manilla Community School.

On August 15, 1969, Deb was united in marriage to John Blom in Manning, Iowa. To this union, three children were born, Julie, Jill, and John. Together they raised their kids in their family home in Manilla. Deb took pride in her home. It was a gathering place for all her family, friends, neighbors, and kids. Coffee on, snacks out, sodas ready was something she lived by. In her home, everyone was welcome.

Deb spent many years working in their family-owned grocery store, Tiny’s Grocery in Manilla. Deb enjoyed working there and especially loved getting to visit with their costumers every day.

Deb will be remembered for the deep love she had for her family. They were truly her whole world. Coming from a large family, she cherished time spent with her nieces and nephews. As a grandmother, she was incredibly hands-on and devoted—singing songs, hosting tea parties, watching movies, shopping, and always finding ways to keep her grandchildren entertained. She was also a wonderful cook who found great joy in preparing for and celebrating holidays, especially Christmas, which held a special place in her heart.

Deb passed away at the Denison Care Center on Sunday, March 15, 2026, attaining the age of seventy-three years, nine months, and six days. She was proceeded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband, John Blom of Manilla, IA; children, Julie (PJ) Meneough of Manilla, IA,Jill (Ron) Vollstedt of Manilla, IA, John (Joy) Blom of Manilla, IA; grandchildren, Molly Meneough, Dane Blom, Raine Meneough, Brody Blom, Audrey Meneough; great-grandchild, Morgan Meeves; siblings, Georgetta (Mike) Barry of Manilla, IA, Stan (Donna) Bandow of Jonestown, TX, Scott (Lorie) Bandow of Manilla, IA, Wyatt (Sylvia) Bandow of Manilla, IA, Dale (Jane) Bandow of Manilla, IA, Kelly Rutherford of Manilla, IA, Kim (Greg) Terlisner of Manilla, IA, Rachel (Kevin) Donahue of Jonestown, TX; brother-in-law, Arv Tesch of Everly, IA; many nieces and nephews, other family members and friends.
