David Leslie Outhouse was born on the family farm at Soldier, IA on August 6, 1935. He was the fifth child of Leslie and Gladys (Nuzum) Outhouse. His four sisters; Delora, Dorothy, Donna, and Doris warmly welcomed David. As a child he was baptized and a member of the RLDS church in Moorhead, IA. He attended country school through 8th grade. Then graduated from Soldier in 1953. During high school he participated in baseball, basketball, and chorus.
In 1957 Dave enlisted in the Army. As PFC he served in Korea for 2 years. Then an additional 4 years of in-active duty. During that time he worked for the Iowa Highway Commission, surveying I-29 in Western Iowa.
November 19, 1960 David married Addie Bell Hervey at First Baptist Church in Harlan, Iowa. Soon after he became a member there. They lived in Omaha and he worked for Willian Scott Engineering for 2 years before moving to the farm near Defiance, Iowa. After moving to rural Iowa, Dave began farming. Addie and Dave raised three children on their farm. As a family they enjoyed roller skating, water skiing, and snow skiing in Colorado. In 1985 Addie passed and Dave continued farming and began welcoming his grandchildren. When Dave moved to Denison he became a regular at Cronks Café, where he enjoyed meeting his fellow coffee buddies. Dave was known as the "mountain lion man," keeping an eye and ear open for local mountain lion sightings. The grandkids loved the opportunity to go along to Cronks with him.
Dave married Marna Weisenborn in 2010, moved to Harlan, Iowa, and retired from farming. He welcomed Marna's children and grandchildren into the circle. Dave and Marna enjoyed traveling, attending their grandkids events and attending shows at the Orpheum Theater.
Dave enjoyed sharing a cold watermelon, salt water taffy, molasses popcorn balls, and homemade ice-cream. He also enjoyed Sunday School at FBC, Coffee Club at Peterson Motors, and supporting the grandkids at the lowa State Fair Outhouse Races.
On Friday November 25, 2022 Dave passed away at Gracewell Nursing home in Denison, Iowa surrounded by family having attained the age of 87 years, 3 months and 19 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Gladys Outhouse; two sisters Donna Shaffer and Doris Mann; wifeAddie Bell, and wife Marna Weisenborn.
Dave Loved the Lord and was a great role model for his kids and grandkids. Left to cherish his memory here on earth are his children; Les (Deb) of Defiance, Iowa; Rebecca (Doug) Petterson of Fuquay Varina, North Carolina; and Paul (Shannon) of Schleswig, Iowa. 11 Grandchildren; Amanda, Abbi, Alex, Arynn, Adeline, Wendy (Ruben), Joanna, Hans, Brittnie (West), Hanna, and Gracie. Great-grandson Meritt. Also two sisters Delora Davis of Cameron, Missouri; Dorothy Poling of Rapid City, South Dakota.
