Beverly Myrene “Bev” Brown, daughter of Max and Amelia (Vinke) Weinbrandt, was born November 14, 1942, at Manning, Iowa. She graduated from Manning High School. Bev married Kenneth Hollander on March 25, 1961, in Manning. They were blessed with six children: Ronda, Scott, Barry, Steven, Douglas, and Jill.
Bev worked as a nurse at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa before moving to Harlan, Iowa where she worked at Harlan Hospital. Shortly after her youngest child was born, she began working at Mickels Restaurant, where she was employed for 18 years. Bev loved working there and all of her children worked with her there at one point.
While working at Mickels Restaurant, Bev met her second husband, Duane Brown. They were married on August 28, 1987. After their marriage, Bev quit working at the restaurant and went into business with Duane dealing in antiques. Duane was also a hog farmer, so for a few years she was a farm wife, which she loved. Bev sold antiques for almost 40 years.
Bev loved bowling, which she did for several years, and told many stories of her state bowling trips. She also loved being able to attend her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s school and sports events. She wished she could have spent more time with all of her grandchildren.
For the last ten years Bev resided in Bloomfield, Nebraska. She enjoyed having the casino close by and went there to “buy gas” and since Tuesday was “senior citizen day”, she would take advantage of the extra credits they offered!
Bev is survived by her children, Ronda (Darrell) Bockman, Steve (Sherie) Hollander, and Jill (Dennis) Doerr; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and sister, Donna Kock.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Duane Brown; sons, Scott Hollander, Barry Hollander, and Douglas Hollander; sisters, Lois (LeRoy) Schagt and Myra (Jim) Jensen; and brother-in-law, Donald Kock.
