Beulavon Beatty was born on December 6, 1918 to Carl and Edna (Harris) Heft in Hancock, Iowa. During her childhood she lived in the Hancock and Oakland area. After graduating in 1936 from the Avoca High School, she attended business school in Omaha. She then worked at the Iowa Power and Light Company in Avoca as a secretary for several years.

In the 1930's, she was a charter member of the Oakland Assembly No. 49 Order of Rainbow for girls and would eventually hold all positions in the local organization, including Worthy Advisor. At the state level, she served in the position of Grand Patriotism. She also belonged to the Valley HHHH Girls 4-H club.

Beulavon married Donald T. Beatty on August 29, 1945. Three daughters were born to this union: Mary Kathleen, Joan, and Jane. She devoted herself to raising her daughters, making most of their clothes, and doing all the bookkeeping for the farm.

In addition to sewing, she enjoyed attending the horse races at Aksarben and Prairie Meadows, where many of the thoroughbreds running had been foaled at the farm. Her favorite summer pastime was mowing the grass. She was a member of the Eastern Star.

Beulavon and Don moved from the farm to the Avoca Nursing and Rehab Center in Avoca in July of 2013, and she died there on December 19, 2013, at the age of 95 years and 13 days. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Don; her sister Geneva Maassen; and her brother Harris Heft.

She is survived by her daughters: Kathleen Martin of Richmond, Virginia; Joan (Loren) Clayton of Omaha, Nebraska; and Jane (Greg) Johnson of Carmel, Indiana; six grandchildren: Steven (Angela) Martin of Indialantic, Florida; Carla (Frank) Gerber of Chestertown, Maryland; Brooke Clayton; Ben Clayton; Tyler (Katie) Johnson of Carmel, Indiana; and Mallory Johnson of Chicago, Illinois; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 AM on Saturday, December 28, 2013 by Pastor David Krueger at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Avoca, Iowa.
