Elizabeth “Ann” Stevenson Voggesser of Denison, Iowa, passed away on April 22, 2026, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, at the age of 90 years, 6 months, and 22 days. Ann was born to David Gelvin and Mary Elizabeth (Craig) Stevenson on September 27, 1935, in Omaha, NE at Methodist Hospital. She graduated in the top five students from Tarkio High School in the spring of 1953.
She attended Tarkio College in Tarkio, MO, where she was a standout student and musician. She was a member of the Kappagathean Literary Society and sang in the college’s Acapella Choir. In her junior year, she was the editor of the college yearbook. In her senior year, she was co- chairman for the Homecoming Activities. April 23, 2026. During her senior year, she also presented her Organ Recital. She graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1957 with a major in Organ Performance.
During her sophomore year of college, she was initiated into P.E.O., an organization that was very near and dear to her heart throughout her life. Throughout her membership as a P.E.O., she held many offices, including that of President. She also attended many conventions as a delegate representing Chapter CO.
She started her teaching career the next year in Denver, CO. She returned to the Midwest the following year and continued her teaching career at Walnut, IA, teaching K-12 vocal music. It was there she met Roy Edward Voggesser.
Roy and Ann were united in marriage on June 8, 1961, and moved to Denison, IA, where she taught vocal music at Denison Elementary for 3 years: first in the old Central Building and then became the first music teacher at the 20th Street building. In 1963, Ann and Roy were blessed with the birth of David Matthias. Three years later, they welcomed Nancy Sue into the family.
Ann was a member, Deacon, Choir Director, and Organist of the Denison United Presbyterian Church. She was often seen at the United Presbyterian Church in Denison at choir practice, Bible Study, or worship. She was an eager volunteer for most any task at the church and supported the congregation and her Lord with her whole heart. She and Dad were members of the Mariners of the Presbyterian Church (which later became Harvesters). As Mariners, they often traveled to the Presbyterian Camp on Lake Okoboji (now Lakeshore Center) to do volunteer work and to enjoy nature and fellowship.
Her joys were numerous, most of which centered around music, travel, PEO, and church. To know Ann was to know that she was generous, kind, faithful, and really, really smart. She embraced technology and over her lifetime took more than 14,000 photos (those are the ones we know about and are in the “cloud”). She frequented the Family Table restaurant with her dear friends for Tuesday pie and coffee, Sunday brunch, and often two or more other times each week.
Mom loved to travel with Dad. They traveled across the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii, visited many places around the world, and were Snowbirds in Port Isabel, TX for 28 years. Some of mom’s favorite travel adventures include cruises to Alaska, trips to Africa, Australia, and Europe, and, always, camping in Colorado. More than that, though, she loved her family. Her children will miss her vibrant personality each and every day.
She is survived by her son David Voggesser (Kate North) of Sugar Grove, IL; daughter Nancy Voggesser of Denison, IA; her grand dog Greta and grand cat Louise, her sister Jean Stevenson of Chesterfield, MO, sister-in-law Marge (Harold) Voggesser, and many nieces and nephews. Ann is preceded in death by Roy (2020); her parents; grand dogs Sexton and Sunshine, grand cats Sylvia, Sappho, Todd, and Shakespeare.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations be made in her memory to: United Presbyterian Church, 205 N 24th Street, Denison, IA 51442.
