Olive E. Ickes - Age 87
Olive Elaine Ickes, the daughter
of Frede and Anna Paulsen Olsen,
was born on February 25, 1917 in
Kimballton, Iowa. She attended
school in Exira, Iowa.
Olive was united in marriage to
George W. Ickes on October 20,
1937 in Harlan, Iowa. They were
the parents of one daughter,
Betty. After their marriage
George and Olive made their home
in Harlan where Olive was
employed at the Evergreen Inn
and the Harlan Produce. George
and Olive often went dancing at
the hall in Defiance, Iowa.
George died November 18, 1973
and Olive remained at her home
in Harlan until moving to the
Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa
in 1989. She was a wonderful
mother and made lasting
relationships with her care
givers. They were like family to
her and she touched their lives
in many ways. Some of Olive’s
greatest joys were eating out
and shopping.
Olive died on Tuesday, December
7, 2004 at the Friendship Home
in Audubon having attained the
age of eighty-seven years, nine
months and ten days. She was
preceded in death by her
husband, one brother, Ben, and
one grandchild, Derick who died
in 1983.
She is survived by her daughter,
Betty and her husband, Robert
Sorensen of Chaparral, New
Mexico; one brother, Robert
Olsen and his wife, Janie of
Conyers, Georgia; one sister,
Norma Hughes of Omaha, Nebraska;
three grandchildren, Kenneth
Sorensen, Brenda and her
husband, Allen Nabors and Jodi
and her husband, Steve
Wroblewski; four great
grandchildren, Jamie and Chelsea
Nabors, Ryan and Alex Wroblewski,
many nieces, nephews, other
relatives and many friends.
Funeral Services were held on
Friday, December 10, 2004 at
10:00 AM at the Pauley Jones
Funeral Home in Harlan, Iowa
with Pastor Steven Frock as the
clergy. Serving as casket
bearers were Virgil Koppold,
Mike Larsen, Clarence Coenen,
Allan Ickes and Tom Larsen.
Interment was held in the Shelby
Cemetery, Shelby, Iowa.
Dorothy Jacobsen Inderlied -
Age 86
Dorothy Faye Jacobsen Inderlied, the daughter of Harvey William and Belle (Pulver)
Errett, was born on August 8, 1919, at Lane, South Dakota. She attended
school in South Dakota, until her family moved to Harlan, Iowa, where she
attended Harlan Community High School.
On April 2, 1938, Dorothy was united in marriage to Lester Jacobsen at
Shenandoah, Iowa. Seven children were born to this union: Karen, Ronald,
Joyce, Larry, Roger, Terry and David. After their marriage, the couple made
their home in Harlan, Iowa. Lester entered into the United States Army in
1943. After receiving his honorable discharge in 1945, the couple moved to
Corley, Iowa. In 1947, they moved back to Harlan, Iowa where they continued
to live until Lester died on December 28, 1976. After his death , Dorothy
continued to live in Harlan.
She loved to visit with friends and family and was named a
queen several times because
of the weight she lost as a member of TOPS. Her collection of
porcelain dolls, spoons and thimbles gave her much joy. Giving to others was
also important to her. She was an avid volunteer for her church, and the
Salvation Army. She was employed for many years in the kitchen of Myrtue
Memorial Hospital as well as Elm Crest Retirement Community and The Chicken
Hut Restaurant. Dorothy was united in marriage to Mr. Albert Inderlied at
Harlan, Iowa on April 23, 1981. After their marriage, they moved to Broken
Arrow, Oklahoma, where she belonged to Immanuel Lutheran Church. After
Albert’s death on August 28, 1983, Dorothy continued to live in Broken Arrow
until 1993, when she moved back to Harlan.
On November 26, 2001, Dorothy became a resident of the Risen Son Christian
Village in Council Bluffs, Iowa. It was there that she died on Friday, April
21, 2006, having attained the age of eighty-six years, eight months and
thirteen days. In addition to her husbands, Lester and Albert, Dorothy was
preceded in death by a son, Ronald and a daughter, Karen; and her brothers
and sisters: Dale Errett, Ruby Jordan, Bonnie Andersen and Raymond Errett.
Survivors include her children: Joyce and her husband, Norman Kenkel of
Earling, Iowa; Larry Jacobsen and his wife, Marilyn of Woodlands, Texas;
Roger Jacobsen and his wife, Linda of Harlan, Iowa; Terry Jacobsen and his
wife, Darlene of Council Bluffs, Iowa; David Jacobsen and his wife, Diane of
Harlan, Iowa; twenty-four grandchildren; thirty-four great-grandchildren;
her sister, Milda Baker of Harlan, Iowa; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Services were held on Tuesday, April 25, 2006, at the Immanuel
Lutheran Church in Harlan, Iowa, at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Heather Ploen
officiating. Interment was in the Harlan Cemetery in Harlan, Iowa, with Tim
Jacobsen, Kevin Kenkel, Tobey Jacobsen, Terry Jacobsen, Craig Kenkel, and
Mike Vandenberg serving as casket bearers.
